Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and proofread various legal documents, including pleadings, motions, agreements, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
  • Organise and maintain physical and electronic client files, legal documents, and case-related materials with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Manage and track court deadlines, filings, and case schedules using internal systems and external portals.
  • Prepare and file legal documents with courts, government agencies, and other entities, ensuring compliance with all procedural rules.
  • Conduct basic legal research to support case preparation and document drafting.
  • Assist lawyers with trial preparation, including organising exhibits, witness lists, and briefing binders.
  • Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and third parties professionally and effectively.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail, emails, and phone calls, directing inquiries appropriately.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, organising meetings, and managing calendars.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and firm information.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal (at least 2 years).
  • Strong proficiency in legal drafting, document preparation, and case management.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a meticulous approach to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and court filing requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive work ethic.
  • High level of professionalism and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Qualification in Law (e.g., HNC/HND in Legal Services, Paralegal Diploma) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with specific Scottish legal procedures and courts.
  • Familiarity with legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
