Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking an enthusiastic and community-focused Public Librarian to join our dynamic team in Brampton. This pivotal role involves curating engaging resources, fostering intellectual curiosity, and creating an inclusive environment where individuals of all ages can access information, discover new passions, and connect with their community. As a Public Librarian, you will be instrumental in delivering high-quality library services, developing innovative programs, and supporting the diverse informational and recreational needs of BramWest residents. You will leverage your expertise in library science to manage collections, provide reference assistance, and promote literacy and lifelong learning initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional reference and information services to patrons of all ages, assisting with research, reader's advisory, and technology queries.
- Develop, plan, and deliver engaging library programs and workshops for diverse age groups, including children, teens, and adults (e.g., story times, book clubs, digital literacy workshops).
- Curate, maintain, and promote a balanced and relevant collection of physical and digital materials, including selection, deselection, and inventory management.
- Assist patrons with library technology, including public computers, Wi-Fi, digital resources, and e-readers.
- Collaborate with community organizations, schools, and internal departments to enhance library outreach and partnerships.
- Stay informed about current trends in library science, technology, and community needs, integrating best practices into service delivery.
- Manage patron accounts, ensure adherence to library policies, and resolve conflicts courteously and effectively.
- Contribute to library marketing and communication efforts to promote services and programs.
- Mentor and support junior staff or volunteers as required.
Required Skills
- Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Proven experience in a public library setting, including reference services and programming.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong commitment to public service.
- Proficiency in library management systems (LMS) and digital resource platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute engaging community programs.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific library software used by major public library systems (e.g., SirsiDynix, Koha, OCLC).
- Knowledge of local Brampton community demographics and needs.
- Bilingualism (English and a second language prevalent in Brampton, e.g., Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, French).
- Experience in outreach activities and community partnerships.
- Familiarity with emerging library technologies and trends (e.g., makerspaces, virtual reality in libraries).
