Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the circulation desk operations, including checking in/out materials, managing patron accounts, and processing holds.
  • Accurately sort, shelve, and maintain the order of library materials according to established classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Classification).
  • Process new acquisitions, including labeling, stamping, security tagging, and preparing materials for circulation.
  • Assist patrons with locating resources, using library equipment (computers, printers, scanners), and basic reference inquiries, directing complex questions to senior staff.
  • Perform routine shelf-reading to ensure materials are correctly placed and maintain an organized, tidy collection.
  • Support interlibrary loan processes by retrieving and preparing materials for transit.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean, welcoming, and organized library environment, including tidying public areas and workstations.
  • Assist with special projects, displays, and programs as needed, demonstrating adaptability and a willingness to learn new tasks.
  • Follow all library policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all patrons and staff.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer proficiency and comfort with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs, push loaded book carts, and stand/walk for extended periods
  • A genuine interest in library services and a commitment to customer service

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a Library Technician program or a related field
  • Previous experience in a customer service role
  • Familiarity with library management systems (LMS) or integrated library systems (ILS)
  • Experience working in a library or information services setting (volunteer experience welcome)
