Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a skilled and passionate Lighting Technician to join our growing technical team, focusing on stage and event setup in Manor, Sheffield. The ideal candidate will be adept at both the technical implementation and the creative design aspects of lighting, capable of working independently or as part of a larger crew. You’ll be involved in all phases, from loading and unloading equipment to programming complex lighting cues and ensuring the safety and functionality of all systems. Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and operate lighting systems for various live events, including concerts, theatre, corporate functions, and festivals.
- Install, focus, and maintain a wide range of lighting fixtures, including intelligent lights, conventional fixtures, and LED technology.
- Routinely inspect and troubleshoot lighting equipment, DMX networks, and control systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Collaborate closely with event managers, production designers, sound technicians, and other crew members to achieve cohesive event production.
- Conduct pre-production planning, including equipment lists, power requirements, and logistical coordination for on-site setup.
- Safely load, unload, transport, and store lighting equipment, adhering to all company and industry safety standards.
- Operate lighting consoles and software (e.g., GrandMA, Avolites, Hog4) during live performances and rehearsals.
- Assist with other technical duties as required, including general stagehand work or audio visual support.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new lighting technologies, techniques, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years (24 months) of professional experience as a Lighting Technician in live events.
- Proficiency in setting up, focusing, and operating various types of stage lighting equipment.
- Strong understanding of DMX protocols, signal flow, and basic electrical principles.
- Experience with major lighting consoles (e.g., GrandMA, Avolites, Hog4) and associated software.
- Ability to read and interpret lighting plots and technical drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 25kg) and work at heights.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant vocational qualification or degree in Technical Theatre, Live Event Production, or a related field.
- IPAF or PASMA certification for working at height.
- Experience with CAD software for lighting design (e.g., Vectorworks Spotlight, Capture).
- Full UK driving license with experience driving commercial vehicles (van/7.5t lorry).
- First Aid certification.
