Key Responsibilities

  • Execute all food preparation tasks including chopping, slicing, dicing, and portioning ingredients according to recipes and chef's specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation at all times, adhering to all food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Assist Line Cooks during service, ensuring a constant supply of prepped items and maintaining efficient workflow.
  • Monitor inventory levels of prepared ingredients and communicate needs to the Executive Chef or Sous Chef.
  • Receive and properly store food deliveries, ensuring quality and freshness upon arrival.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, assisting colleagues as needed.
  • Learn and adapt to new recipes, menu items, and kitchen procedures quickly and effectively.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a professional kitchen environment, preferably as a prep cook or similar role.
  • Strong knife skills and ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Fundamental understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures (e.g., HACCP, Safe Food Handler certification).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Culinary diploma or certificate from a recognized institution.
  • Experience with a variety of cooking methods and cuisines.
  • Food Handler’s Certificate (City of Toronto).
