Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mason with a strong focus on wall and tile finishing to join our dedicated team in Chapeltown, Sheffield. As a Mason – Wall & Tile Finishing, you will be responsible for a wide array of tasks, ranging from the fundamental laying of bricks and blocks to the intricate application of various tiling materials. Your daily responsibilities will involve meticulously preparing surfaces, applying an array of finishing materials, and ensuring precise alignment and impeccable grouting. We’re looking for someone who can read and interpret blueprints with ease, translate complex designs into tangible structures, and troubleshoot challenges effectively on-site. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces accurately for masonry and tiling applications, ensuring they are clean, level, and sound.
  • Mix and apply various types of mortar, grout, and adhesives according to project specifications and material requirements.
  • Lay bricks, blocks, and natural stone units precisely, adhering to architectural plans and building codes.
  • Skillfully cut, shape, and fit ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, and other tile materials for walls and floors.
  • Perform detailed grouting, sealing, and finishing of tiled surfaces to ensure aesthetic appeal and longevity.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements and dimensions.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work environment, strictly adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Inspect completed work for quality, ensuring adherence to design specifications and company standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with other tradespeople, site managers, and project supervisors.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to materials, tools, or installation techniques on-site.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Mason, Bricklayer, or Tiler with a portfolio demonstrating wall and tile finishing expertise.
  • Strong proficiency in bricklaying, blocklaying, and stonework techniques.
  • Expertise in all aspects of wall and floor tiling, including various materials and patterns.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and work from blueprints and architectural drawings.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, precision, and a keen eye for detail.
  • Thorough understanding of different types of masonry materials, adhesives, and grouts.
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes and safety regulations.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Trowel Occupations, Wall and Floor Tiling, or a related field.
  • Valid CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
  • Experience with specialist tiling techniques (e.g., mosaic, large format tiles, wet rooms).
  • Knowledge of rendering or plastering applications.
  • Full UK driving license with access to own transport.
