Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare examination rooms and patients for medical procedures.
  • Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints.
  • Assist physicians during examinations, treatments, and minor surgical procedures.
  • Administer medications as directed by a physician and according to state regulations.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and prepare specimens for external laboratory processing.
  • Sterilize medical instruments and maintain a clean and organized clinical environment.
  • Manage patient scheduling, appointments, and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Handle administrative tasks such as insurance verification and prior authorizations.
  • Educate patients on medical procedures, medications, and special diets as instructed by the physician.
  • Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OHSA.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.

Required Skills

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Proficiency in taking vital signs, performing venipuncture, and administering injections.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated compassion, empathy, and a patient-first attitude.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific EHR systems like Telus Health EMR, Accuro EMR, or OSCAR EMR.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Experience in a specialty clinic (e.g., Cardiology, Dermatology, Family Medicine).
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to the Toronto community.
  • A strong understanding of Canadian healthcare regulations and billing procedures.
