Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit accurate medical claims to various insurance carriers (e.g., OHIP, WSIB, private insurers) and patients.
- Follow up on unpaid claims, investigate rejections and denials, and execute effective appeals processes to ensure maximum reimbursement.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility, and accurately input demographic and insurance information into billing systems.
- Review medical documentation and procedure codes (CPT, ICD-10) for accuracy and completeness, identifying and correcting any discrepancies.
- Maintain strict compliance with all provincial and federal billing regulations, payer guidelines, and HIPAA standards.
- Handle patient billing inquiries, explain statements, and resolve billing-related issues in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Process patient payments, manage accounts receivable, and generate regular billing reports.
- Stay informed about changes in billing codes, regulations, and insurance policies to ensure up-to-date practices.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and administrative staff to clarify documentation and resolve billing challenges.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Medical Biller, preferably in a remote setting.
- In-depth knowledge of medical billing procedures, including claim submission, denial management, and appeals.
- Proficiency in CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
- Strong understanding of Canadian healthcare billing regulations, including OHIP and private insurance policies.
- Experience with medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Medical Billing and Coding certification (e.g., AHIMA, AAPC).
