Key Responsibilities
- Review and accurately assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for medical diagnoses and procedures.
- Interpret complex medical documentation from various sources, including physician notes, operative reports, and lab results.
- Ensure coding compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations and guidelines, including HIPAA.
- Research and resolve coding discrepancies, denials, and appeals to optimize revenue cycle management.
- Query providers for clarification and additional documentation when necessary to ensure accurate and complete code assignment.
- Stay current with changes in coding guidelines, medical terminology, and compliance requirements through continuous education and professional development.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere strictly to all HIPAA regulations and company policies.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews and audits to ensure coding accuracy and integrity.
- Collaborate effectively with billing, clinical, and administrative teams to resolve coding-related issues and improve workflows.
Required Skills
- Active professional coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA) from an accredited organization.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a remote or multi-specialty setting.
- Proficiency in CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems across various medical disciplines.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
