Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our dynamic team in Ashland, Kentucky. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of routine and complex laboratory tests and procedures on patient specimens in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and immunology.
  • Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, identifying abnormal or critical values and communicating them promptly to appropriate healthcare providers.
  • Implement and adhere to strict quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure the reliability and validity of all testing.
  • Prepare reagents, solutions, and controls according to standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all tests performed, results, and quality control data.
  • Participate in the evaluation and validation of new methods, instruments, and testing procedures.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accrediting body standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, COLA).
  • Assist in the training and mentorship of new laboratory staff and students.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related science field.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by ASCP or an equivalent recognized agency.
  • Proficiency in performing a broad range of laboratory tests across multiple disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and quality assurance principles.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and standard office software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field.
  • Specialty certification in an area such as Blood Bank (SBB) or Microbiology (SM).
  • Two or more years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies in a laboratory environment.
