Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our esteemed hospital team in the vibrant Beaches Triangle area of Toronto. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of complex medical laboratory tests and analyses on patient samples (blood, urine, tissues, etc.) using automated and manual techniques across multiple disciplines (e.g., hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank).
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.
  • Adhere strictly to established quality control procedures, validating results, recognizing discrepancies, and taking corrective actions.
  • Process patient samples, prepare reagents, and maintain accurate records of all tests performed and results obtained in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Interpret and report laboratory results accurately and efficiently, communicating critical findings to healthcare providers in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new laboratory methods, procedures, and technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, laboratory policies, and accreditation standards (e.g., IQMH, CSA).
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the laboratory department.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and laboratory data at all times.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient care outcomes.

Required Skills

  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • Certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in a hospital setting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in multiple laboratory disciplines (e.g., hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank)
  • Strong understanding of laboratory quality assurance and control principles
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and standard office software
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests and documenting results
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized certification or advanced training in a specific laboratory discipline.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies in a lab setting.
  • Previous experience with a variety of automated laboratory analyzers and platforms.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff or students.
