Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Medical Outreach Worker – Public Health to join our client’s dedicated team in Henbury, Bristol. This pivotal role involves actively engaging with diverse community members, particularly those from vulnerable or underserved populations, to promote health education, facilitate access to vital medical services, and build trust within the community. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct proactive outreach activities in various community settings (homes, community centers, public spaces) to identify individuals in need of health support.
  • Provide accurate and accessible health education on topics such as preventative care, nutrition, chronic disease management, mental health, and substance abuse.
  • Facilitate access to healthcare services, including assisting with appointment scheduling, transportation, and navigating complex healthcare systems.
  • Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with community members, local organizations, healthcare providers, and social service agencies.
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals to ensure they receive appropriate and timely medical care and support.
  • Develop and distribute culturally sensitive health promotion materials and resources.
  • Organize and deliver health workshops, presentations, and group sessions for diverse audiences.
  • Collect and maintain confidential client data, outreach activity logs, and contribute to program evaluation reports.
  • Identify community health trends and barriers to care, reporting findings to inform public health strategies.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous professional development.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in community outreach, public health, social work, or a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and trust with diverse populations, including vulnerable and hard-to-reach individuals.
  • Strong understanding of public health principles and health inequalities.
  • Proficiency in data collection, record-keeping, and basic report writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to adapt communication styles to different backgrounds.
  • Valid UK Driving License and access to a reliable vehicle for community travel.
  • Enhanced DBS check will be required upon offer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Public Health, Community Development, Social Work, Nursing, or a related healthcare field.
  • Experience working specifically with populations in Bristol or similar urban areas.
  • Knowledge of local health and social care services available in Bristol.
  • Fluency in an additional language relevant to Bristol's diverse communities (e.g., Polish, Somali, Bengali, Urdu).
  • Experience in health promotion campaign development and delivery.
