Key Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of microbiological tests including sterility, bioburden, endotoxin, microbial identification, and growth promotion studies.
- Conduct environmental monitoring of cleanrooms and controlled environments, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
- Develop, optimize, and validate new microbiological test methods and procedures in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Analyze and interpret test data, document findings meticulously, and prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, and automated microbial identification systems.
- Participate in Out-of-Specification (OOS) and Out-of-Trend (OOT) investigations, identifying root causes and proposing corrective actions.
- Adhere strictly to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and internal Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Quality Assurance, Research & Development, and Production, to support various projects.
- Manage laboratory supplies and reagents, ensuring proper inventory and safe disposal of biological waste.
- Stay abreast of new scientific developments and regulatory requirements in microbiology to continuously enhance laboratory practices.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of hands-on experience in a microbiology laboratory, preferably within a regulated industry (e.g., pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food & beverage).
- Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic techniques, microbial culture, and isolation methods.
- Solid understanding and practical experience with various microbiological testing methodologies (e.g., membrane filtration, direct plating, PCR, ELISA).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with an aptitude for data interpretation and statistical analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific information clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and thrive in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automated microbial identification systems (e.g., Vitek 2, MALDI-TOF MS).
- Familiarity with Health Canada regulations and international GMP guidelines.
- Proven experience in method development, validation, and transfer.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is considered a significant asset for this role in Quebec.
- Experience in environmental monitoring program design and execution.
