Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced News Producer with a strong focus on editorial planning to join our dynamic team in the Baltic Triangle, Liverpool. This pivotal role is at the heart of our news operation, responsible for meticulously planning and executing our daily news coverage, ensuring we deliver timely, accurate, and engaging content across multiple platforms. You will play a crucial role in shaping our editorial agenda, identifying key stories, and developing compelling angles that resonate with our diverse audience.

As a News Producer for Editorial Planning, you will lead the charge in identifying trending topics, breaking news, and unique local stories within Liverpool and the broader region. You will work collaboratively with reporters, editors, and digital teams to conceptualise, assign, and track stories from inception to broadcast or publication. This role demands a keen eye for detail, exceptional organisational skills, and a deep understanding of journalistic ethics and media law. You will be instrumental in developing long-term editorial calendars, ensuring a balanced mix of news, features, and investigative journalism that meets our audience’s evolving needs and maintains our commitment to public service journalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily and long-term editorial planning process for news coverage across all platforms.
  • Identify, research, and pitch compelling news stories, features, and investigative pieces.
  • Assign stories to reporters and ensure timely delivery, adherence to editorial guidelines, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with reporters, editors, digital producers, and broadcast teams to optimise content for various platforms (TV, radio, web, social media).
  • Develop and maintain editorial calendars, ensuring a diverse and engaging content schedule.
  • Monitor news wires, social media, and other sources for breaking news and trending topics.
  • Conduct thorough research and fact-checking to uphold journalistic integrity and accuracy.
  • Oversee the production workflow from conception to publication/broadcast, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to reporters to enhance storytelling and journalistic quality.
  • Ensure all content adheres to legal, ethical, and company standards.
  • Actively participate in editorial meetings, contributing innovative ideas and strategic insights.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a news production or editorial planning role.
  • Demonstrable experience in editorial planning and content strategy within a news organisation.
  • Exceptional news judgment and a deep understanding of current affairs, local and national news.
  • Strong understanding of journalistic ethics, media law, and best practices.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in newsroom content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience with multimedia storytelling and cross-platform content delivery.
