Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging, culturally sensitive educational programs for children and young people within the Northern Oakridge community.
  • Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching methods to meet individual learning styles and needs.
  • Collaborate closely with parents, guardians, and community leaders to foster strong home-school partnerships and support networks.
  • Organize and facilitate community workshops, events, and outreach initiatives to promote learning and engagement.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and development.
  • Identify and address barriers to learning, connecting families with appropriate support services where necessary.
  • Contribute to the development of curriculum resources and teaching materials relevant to the community's context.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that respects all backgrounds and abilities.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in teaching or educational support roles, particularly within community or urban settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse groups.
  • Strong understanding of child development and various learning pedagogies.
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to cater to different age groups and learning abilities.
  • Proficiency in planning, organizing, and delivering engaging educational content.
  • Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the challenges faced by diverse communities in London.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Community Development, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and support networks in Oakridge, London.
  • Additional language skills relevant to the local community (e.g., Polish, Urdu, Somali, Punjabi).
