Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Occupational Therapists to implement patient-centered treatment plans.
- Prepare treatment areas, materials, and equipment for therapy sessions.
- Assist patients with therapeutic exercises and activities of daily living (ADLs) under direct supervision.
- Educate patients and their families on therapeutic techniques, adaptive equipment, and home exercise programs.
- Document patient progress, observations, and responses to interventions accurately and promptly.
- Monitor patient well-being and safety during therapy sessions, reporting any changes or concerns to the Occupational Therapist.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the therapy environment and equipment.
- Provide empathetic support and encouragement to patients throughout their rehabilitation journey.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to ongoing program development and improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Diploma from an accredited Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) program.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong empathy, compassion, and a patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for documentation and task management.
- Physical ability to assist patients with mobility and transfers, as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer, co-op, or internship experience in a healthcare or rehabilitation setting.
- Familiarity with various therapeutic modalities and adaptive equipment.
- Knowledge of relevant healthcare regulations and best practices.
- Bilingualism (English and French, or other common languages in Toronto) is an asset.
