Job Description

Hiring.zycto is excited to announce an opening for a passionate and dedicated Optometric Assistant to join our thriving practice in Kennedy Park, Toronto. No prior experience in optometry is required; we are looking for someone with an eagerness to learn, a positive attitude, and exceptional customer service skills. As an Optometric Assistant, you will be the welcoming face of our clinic, ensuring our patients receive outstanding care from the moment they step through our doors until their visit concludes. You will play a crucial role in the daily operations of our practice, supporting our Optometrists and ensuring a smooth, efficient, and comfortable experience for every patient. This role involves a blend of administrative tasks, patient pre-testing, and assisting with optical dispensing. You will be responsible for maintaining organized patient records, scheduling appointments, and managing front desk operations. Beyond administrative duties, you will learn to perform preliminary tests, educate patients on lens options, and help them select eyewear that meets their needs and style. Key Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly and manage check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments efficiently.
  • Perform preliminary diagnostic tests (e.g., auto-refraction, visual fields, tonometry) as trained.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, both digital and physical.
  • Assist patients with frame selection and lens choices, explaining various options and benefits.
  • Educate patients on proper contact lens insertion, removal, and care.
  • Manage optical inventory, including ordering, receiving, and organizing frames and contact lenses.
  • Handle patient inquiries, phone calls, and resolve minor issues professionally.
  • Process payments, insurance claims, and manage billing procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the reception area and examination rooms.
  • Sterilize and maintain optical equipment as per clinic protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with Optometrists and other team members to ensure seamless patient flow.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong customer service orientation and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications (MS Office Suite).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to learn new technical skills quickly and adapt to new procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role (retail, hospitality, healthcare).
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology (or willingness to learn).
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Certification in optometric assisting (though not required, it's a plus for future growth).
