Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control access to the building, ensuring only authorised individuals enter the premises.
- Conduct regular security patrols of the building and its immediate surroundings, identifying and reporting any suspicious activity, hazards, or breaches.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to resident inquiries, concerns, and emergencies, escalating issues to management or emergency services when necessary.
- Oversee the cleanliness and presentation of common areas, performing light cleaning tasks and ensuring general tidiness during overnight shifts.
- Manage incoming deliveries and mail, securely storing items and notifying recipients as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate logs and detailed records of all incidents, visitor movements, maintenance requests, and daily activities.
- Liaise effectively with emergency services, contractors, and building management as required to resolve issues.
- Enforce building rules and regulations calmly and professionally to ensure a harmonious living or working environment.
- Operate and monitor CCTV systems, alarm panels, and other building security equipment.
- Provide a welcoming, professional, and courteous reception service to residents, guests, and legitimate visitors.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a customer service, security, or hospitality-related role, ideally within a residential or commercial building setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally and clearly with diverse individuals.
- Strong observational and problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying and resolving issues efficiently.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a lone working environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., email, word processing, basic building management software).
- Fundamental knowledge of health and safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Professional and calm demeanor, capable of handling stressful or emergency situations with composure.
- Physical ability to perform regular patrols, stand for extended periods, and perform light manual tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- SIA Licence (Security Industry Authority) or equivalent security certification.
- Valid First Aid certification.
- Previous experience as a concierge, night porter, or in a property management role.
- Familiarity with building management systems (BMS) or smart building technology.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to Edinburgh's diverse population.
