Key Responsibilities
- Prepare various surfaces for painting by cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, and filling cracks and holes to ensure a smooth, clean, and durable finish.
- Mix and match paints, stains, and other finishes to specific colours and textures, ensuring consistency and adherence to project specifications.
- Apply paint, varnish, and other protective or decorative coatings to walls, ceilings, trim, and other surfaces using brushes, rollers, and sprayers.
- Utilise scaffolding, ladders, and lifts safely and effectively to reach elevated areas, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Inspect finished surfaces for quality, ensuring an even coat, smooth finish, and promptly addressing any imperfections or touch-ups required.
- Protect surrounding areas, furniture, and fixtures from paint splatters and damage using appropriate drop cloths, masking tape, and coverings.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, including proper disposal of waste materials and thorough cleaning and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices on site.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, other tradespeople (e.g., plasterers, carpenters), and clients to ensure seamless project execution and timely completion.
- Perform minor repair work on painted surfaces as part of general maintenance tasks, ensuring longevity and aesthetic appeal.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Painter or Decorator in construction finishing or property maintenance.
- Excellent knowledge of painting materials, application techniques, surface preparation, and colour matching.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of painting tools and equipment, including various brushes, rollers, and airless sprayers.
- Strong attention to detail, precision, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, flawless finishes.
- Physical stamina, dexterity, and the ability to work comfortably in various weather conditions, at heights, and to lift heavy materials.
- Thorough understanding and practical application of health and safety regulations pertinent to painting and construction work.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration and client interaction.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Painting and Decorating or an equivalent recognised vocational qualification.
- Valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
- Experience with specialist decorative finishes, wallpapering, or industrial coatings.
- Full UK driving license with access to own transport, for travelling between various project sites.
