Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal with a strong focus on Court Preparation & Research to join one of our esteemed client firms in Duddingston, Edinburgh. This is a pivotal role that will see you working closely with solicitors and barristers, providing comprehensive support throughout all stages of the litigation process, from initial fact-finding to trial. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring that legal teams are thoroughly prepared for court proceedings, armed with meticulously organised documentation and robust research.

Your primary responsibilities will encompass an extensive array of tasks designed to streamline case management and enhance the efficiency of legal representation. This includes conducting in-depth legal research on relevant statutes, case law, and regulations, summarising findings, and drafting legal memoranda. You will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and organising pleadings, motions, and other court documents, ensuring absolute accuracy and adherence to procedural rules. Managing discovery processes, including compiling and reviewing documents, interrogatories, and requests for production, will also be a key aspect of your day-to-day. This role requires an individual who is not only proficient in legal procedures but also possesses exceptional organisational skills, capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines. You will play a crucial part in the firm’s commitment to delivering outstanding legal services and achieving favorable outcomes for clients, making a tangible impact on complex and high-stakes cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive legal research using various databases and resources to support ongoing cases and provide accurate information.
  • Assist in the preparation of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, subpoenas, and court orders, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
  • Organise and maintain physical and electronic case files, ensuring all documents are accurately categorised and easily accessible.
  • Manage discovery processes, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions.
  • Summarise depositions, testimonies, and other legal documents for attorneys.
  • Prepare trial binders, exhibits, witness lists, and other materials required for court proceedings.
  • Liaise with clients, court personnel, and other external parties as needed, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Assist attorneys with administrative tasks related to case management and court scheduling.
  • Review and proofread all legal documents for grammar, spelling, and factual accuracy.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Paralegal with a focus on litigation support and court preparation.
  • Strong understanding of legal terminology, court procedures, and legal research methodologies.
  • Proficiency in legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Law or a related field.
  • Paralegal certification from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with case management software.
  • Familiarity with Scottish legal system and court rules.
