Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Licensed Paralegal to join our growing legal team in The Glebe, Ottawa. As a Licensed Paralegal, you will play a crucial role in managing client files from inception to resolution, providing essential legal support across various practice areas including small claims court, landlord and tenant board matters, administrative tribunals, and provincial offences. You will be instrumental in drafting legal documents, conducting thorough legal research, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse caseload related to small claims, landlord and tenant disputes, and provincial offences.
  • Draft, review, and file various legal documents, including statements of claim, defence, affidavits, and motions.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research to support case strategies and client advice.
  • Prepare for and represent clients at mediations, settlement conferences, and hearings before the Small Claims Court, Landlord and Tenant Board, and other administrative tribunals.
  • Maintain accurate and organized client files, ensuring strict adherence to deadlines and regulatory guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and court officials, providing updates and managing expectations.
  • Assist with client intake, initial consultations, and assessment of legal issues.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Law Society of Ontario's Rules of Professional Conduct for Paralegals.
  • Support the legal team with administrative tasks as required, including scheduling and correspondence.

Required Skills

  • Valid P1 Paralegal License with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Proven experience working as a Licensed Paralegal, preferably 2+ years.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents and correspondence.
  • Strong knowledge of Small Claims Court, Landlord and Tenant Board, and Provincial Offences Act procedures.
  • Excellent legal research and analytical skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency with legal software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with legal case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase).
  • Additional training or certification in dispute resolution.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development.
