Job Description

Hiring.zycto, in partnership with the City of Montreal, is actively seeking a diligent and community-focused Parking Enforcement Officer to join our team in the bustling Plateau Mont-Royal borough. This crucial role involves ensuring compliance with municipal parking regulations, thereby facilitating traffic flow, promoting public safety, and contributing to the overall quality of life for residents and visitors. You will be an integral part of maintaining order in a dynamic urban environment, responding to inquiries, educating the public on parking bylaws, and issuing citations when necessary.

You will spend your shifts patrolling assigned areas, often on foot, observing parking patterns, and meticulously documenting infractions. Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas of Plateau Mont-Royal, on foot or by vehicle, to monitor parking conditions and ensure compliance with municipal bylaws.
  • Enforce all relevant municipal parking bylaws and regulations, including permit zones, time limits, no-parking zones, and accessible parking restrictions.
  • Issue parking citations accurately and efficiently using handheld electronic devices, ensuring all details are correctly recorded.
  • Educate the public on parking rules and regulations, providing clear, concise, and helpful information to inquiries.
  • Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding parking issues in a professional, courteous, and diplomatic manner.
  • Document and report any observed public safety hazards, suspicious activities, or damage to public property.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of daily activities, patrol routes, and all issued citations.
  • Operate and properly maintain assigned equipment, including handheld ticketing devices, communication radios, and patrol vehicles.
  • Appear in court as required to provide factual testimony regarding contested parking citations.
  • Collaborate effectively with local law enforcement, emergency services, and other municipal departments as needed to resolve issues.

Required Skills

  • Strong verbal communication and active listening skills for public interaction.
  • Exceptional observational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and apply complex municipal bylaws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using handheld electronic devices and basic computer skills.
  • Proven capacity for conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.
  • Physical fitness to walk extensively and stand for prolonged periods in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (Quebec) with a clean driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of previous experience in parking enforcement, security, bylaw enforcement, or a similar public-facing role.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is highly desirable to effectively serve Montreal's diverse population.
  • In-depth knowledge of the City of Montreal's municipal parking bylaws and geographical understanding of Plateau Mont-Royal.
  • Completion of a recognized law enforcement, security, or public safety program.
