Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to pediatric patients from infancy through adolescence, adhering to established protocols and standards of practice.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and implement nursing interventions based on patient needs and physician orders.
- Administer medications safely and accurately, monitor patient responses, and document all care meticulously in electronic health records.
- Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, medication management, and self-care techniques in an age-appropriate and culturally sensitive manner.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, specialists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
- Monitor vital signs, recognize changes in patient conditions, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as required.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and child-friendly environment, ensuring patient comfort and minimizing anxiety.
- Act as an advocate for pediatric patients and their families, upholding their rights and ensuring their voices are heard.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to enhance clinical skills and knowledge in pediatric nursing.
Required Skills
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in a pediatric acute care setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
- Demonstrated expertise in pediatric assessment, medication administration, and patient care management.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills for interacting with children and families.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- Specialty certification in Pediatric Nursing (e.g., CPN).
- Experience with various pediatric sub-specialties (e.g., oncology, cardiology, critical care).
- Bilingualism (English and other common languages spoken in Toronto, such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Punjabi).
