Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive personal care, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting assistance, respecting client privacy and dignity.
  • Assist clients with safe mobility, transfers, and ambulation using appropriate assistive devices and techniques.
  • Administer medication reminders and monitor for side effects, accurately documenting observations.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals, accommodating dietary restrictions and preferences, and assist with feeding as needed.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, including laundry, tidying, and sanitizing, to maintain a clean and safe home environment.
  • Observe and accurately report any changes in client's physical condition, cognitive function, or emotional well-being to the care supervisor.
  • Offer meaningful companionship, engaging clients in conversations, hobbies, and social activities.
  • Accompany clients to medical appointments, social outings, or errands, ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Maintain meticulous and timely documentation of care provided, observations, and any incidents according to company policies.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, infection control protocols, and company procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with clients, their families, and other members of the care team.

Required Skills

  • Valid Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate or equivalent provincial certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent, hands-on experience in a personal care, home support, or long-term care setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, respectful, and client-centered care.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and active listening skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and efficient time management capabilities.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for client visits (highly preferred).
  • Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing care for clients with diverse needs, including dementia, palliative care, developmental disabilities, or complex medical conditions.
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to Vancouver's multicultural population (e.g., Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi).
  • Knowledge of local community resources and support services for seniors and individuals requiring home care.
  • Basic proficiency in using digital tools or apps for care documentation and communication.
