Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations in a specialized context.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses and definitive treatment plans within a specialized area of practice.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of diagnostic tests, including advanced imaging and lab work.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, including minor surgical procedures, injections, and complex wound care, appropriate to the specialty.
  • Provide expert pre-operative and post-operative care, including managing complications and follow-ups.
  • Educate patients and their families on complex medical conditions, specialized treatment plans, and preventative care strategies.
  • Collaborate effectively with supervising physicians and a multidisciplinary healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely electronic medical records (EMR) in compliance with professional standards.
  • Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives, clinical research, and program development within the specialty.
  • Refer patients to appropriate sub-specialists or auxiliary services as needed, ensuring continuity of care.

Required Skills

  • Current certification and licensure as a Physician Assistant in Ontario.
  • Exceptional diagnostic and advanced clinical reasoning skills.
  • Proven proficiency in medical record documentation (EMR).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient counseling abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Advanced procedural skills relevant to a specific specialty area.
  • Superior critical thinking and complex problem-solving capabilities.
  • Commitment to a patient-centered care approach.
  • Current CPR/BLS and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Certification or advanced training in a specific medical sub-specialty (e.g., surgical, cardiology, orthopedics, emergency medicine).
  • Experience in a leadership, mentorship, or preceptorship role.
  • Familiarity with local healthcare systems and established referral networks within Toronto.
  • Bilingualism (e.g., English and French, or other relevant languages prevalent in Toronto's diverse population).
  • Experience with specific EMR systems such as EPIC or Cerner.
