Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and non-routine inspections of pipeline systems, including above-ground and buried pipelines, to assess structural integrity, material condition, and operational functionality.
- Utilize various non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as visual inspection, ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), and radiographic testing (RT) to detect defects, corrosion, and anomalies.
- Ensure strict adherence to all relevant industry codes, standards (e.g., CSA Z662, API 1169), company policies, and provincial/federal regulations.
- Document inspection findings thoroughly and accurately, including detailed reports, photographic evidence, and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and project teams to provide expert input on pipeline integrity management plans and repair strategies.
- Monitor construction and maintenance activities involving pipelines to ensure quality control and compliance with specifications.
- Conduct site visits and field assessments, often in varying weather conditions and sometimes in remote locations.
- Participate in incident investigations related to pipeline failures or anomalies, contributing technical expertise.
- Maintain and calibrate inspection equipment, ensuring it is always in optimal working condition.
- Stay current with advancements in pipeline inspection technology, industry best practices, and regulatory changes.
- Promote and uphold the highest standards of safety in all operational aspects.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in pipeline inspection or a closely related field.
- Valid NDT certifications (e.g., CGSB Level 1 or 2 in UT, MPI, RT) relevant to pipeline inspection.
- Strong knowledge of pipeline materials, welding processes, corrosion mechanisms, and defect identification.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report generation and stakeholder interaction.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Understanding of occupational health and safety regulations pertinent to fieldwork.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant technical diploma or degree in engineering, materials science, or a related discipline.
- API 1169 certification (Pipeline Inspector Certification).
- Experience with GIS and data management software for pipeline integrity.
- Knowledge of cathodic protection systems and their inspection.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations specific to pipeline operations in Nova Scotia.
