Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Port Operator – Dock & Warehouse Coordinator to join our vibrant team in Danestone, Aberdeen. This crucial role involves overseeing and participating in the efficient movement of goods through our port facilities and integrated warehouses. You will be at the heart of our operations, ensuring the seamless loading, unloading, storage, and distribution of diverse cargo, from raw materials to finished products. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently load, unload, and move cargo using various material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, potentially small cranes or hoists).
- Coordinate with vessel crews, truck drivers, and internal warehouse staff to ensure seamless cargo transitions and optimal space utilization.
- Perform pre-operation and post-operation checks on all assigned equipment, diligently reporting any faults, damages, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Accurately record and document all cargo movements, including manifests, tally sheets, inventory updates, and other operational logs.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment across the dockside, storage areas, and within the warehouse facility.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols, port regulations, international maritime guidelines, and environmental standards.
- Conduct routine inventory counts, assist in stock reconciliation processes, and help manage discrepancies.
- Participate actively in team briefings, contribute to operational planning for daily activities, and communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Identify and report any discrepancies, damages, potential hazards, or security concerns to supervisors without delay.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a port, warehouse, or logistics environment (minimum 2 years).
- Valid forklift operator certification (e.g., Counterbalance, Reach Truck) with demonstrated proficiency.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and best practices, particularly within a port or industrial setting.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering effective teamwork.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry, inventory management, and record-keeping.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving abilities.
- Reliable, punctual, and possessing a strong, proactive work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cargo lashing, securing techniques, and hazardous goods handling.
- Knowledge of port operating systems or warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Additional heavy machinery operating licenses (e.g., mobile crane, container handler).
- Valid First Aid certification.
- Understanding of customs procedures for international cargo and associated documentation.
