Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, reach trucks, and other material handling machinery, for loading and unloading cargo.
- Coordinate and monitor dockside activities, ensuring efficient flow of inbound and outbound freight.
- Manage warehouse inventory, including receiving, storing, picking, and dispatching goods, maintaining accurate records.
- Conduct pre-shift checks on machinery and equipment, reporting any faults or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., transport, planning, customer service) to ensure seamless operations and resolve issues.
- Perform quality checks on incoming and outgoing goods to prevent damage and discrepancies.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working environment across the dock and warehouse.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a logistics, warehouse, or 'port' operational environment (inland or maritime).
- Valid Forklift (Counterbalance and/or Reach Truck) license is essential.
- Strong understanding of health and safety procedures in a warehousing or logistics setting.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills for inventory management systems.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional heavy machinery certifications (e.g., Crane Operator, Shunter).
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Knowledge of cargo handling procedures for various freight types.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Warehousing.
