Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, reach trucks, and other material handling machinery, for loading and unloading cargo.
  • Coordinate and monitor dockside activities, ensuring efficient flow of inbound and outbound freight.
  • Manage warehouse inventory, including receiving, storing, picking, and dispatching goods, maintaining accurate records.
  • Conduct pre-shift checks on machinery and equipment, reporting any faults or maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., transport, planning, customer service) to ensure seamless operations and resolve issues.
  • Perform quality checks on incoming and outgoing goods to prevent damage and discrepancies.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working environment across the dock and warehouse.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a logistics, warehouse, or 'port' operational environment (inland or maritime).
  • Valid Forklift (Counterbalance and/or Reach Truck) license is essential.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety procedures in a warehousing or logistics setting.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills for inventory management systems.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional heavy machinery certifications (e.g., Crane Operator, Shunter).
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Knowledge of cargo handling procedures for various freight types.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Warehousing.
