Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Port Operator with strong Dock & Warehouse Coordination skills to join our team in Reading, England. This critical role involves overseeing and streamlining the movement of goods within our logistics hub, ensuring efficient loading, unloading, storage, and dispatch operations. As a Port Operator, you will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of our supply chain, coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders, and upholding the highest standards of safety and operational excellence. You will be responsible for the meticulous planning and execution of daily dock activities, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise the loading, unloading, and movement of goods, ensuring adherence to schedules and operational procedures.
- Manage dock traffic, allocating berths/loading bays efficiently and safely for incoming and outgoing freight.
- Perform detailed inventory management, including receiving, storing, picking, and dispatching, maintaining accurate records.
- Operate various material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) safely and efficiently, performing daily inspections.
- Liaise with internal teams, drivers, carriers, and third-party logistics providers to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
- Monitor and enforce health and safety regulations, company policies, and best practices within the dock and warehouse areas.
- Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks or discrepancies, implementing corrective actions promptly.
- Prepare and maintain necessary documentation, including manifests, bills of lading, and shipping labels.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in port, dock, or warehouse operations and coordination.
- Proficiency in operating material handling equipment (e.g., counterbalance forklift, reach truck) with valid certification.
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles and warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Demonstrable problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to operational challenges.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively.
- Solid understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance within a logistics environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a supervisory or team lead role within a logistics or warehousing setting.
- Knowledge of import/export procedures and customs documentation.
