Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a visionary and highly experienced Principal Electrical Engineer with a specialized focus on design to join our elite engineering team in Toronto. This is a pivotal role for an individual who is not only a master of electrical systems design but also a natural leader, capable of guiding complex projects from initial concept through to successful implementation and beyond.

As a Principal Electrical Engineer – Design, you will be the technical cornerstone of our product development efforts, responsible for architecting, designing, and validating sophisticated electrical systems and components. You will drive innovation in areas such as power electronics, analog and digital circuit design, embedded systems integration, and signal processing. Your expertise will be crucial in setting technical direction, establishing best practices, and ensuring that all designs meet stringent performance, reliability, cost, and safety requirements.

This role demands a meticulous approach to design documentation, robust testing methodologies, and a deep understanding of industry standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., UL, CE, FCC, ISO). You will lead design reviews, provide critical feedback to peers, and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement within the team. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineering, software development, manufacturing, and product management to ensure seamless integration and successful product launches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the complete electrical design lifecycle for new products, from conceptualization and architectural definition to detailed design, prototyping, and production release.
  • Architect and design complex analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits, power supplies, and control systems.
  • Conduct comprehensive design reviews, simulations, and analyses (e.g., worst-case, thermal, signal integrity, power integrity) to ensure robust and reliable designs.
  • Mentor and guide junior and intermediate electrical engineers, fostering a culture of technical growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements (e.g., UL, CE, FCC), and internal quality procedures.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration and manufacturability of electrical systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Perform root cause analysis for complex electrical issues and implement effective corrective actions.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in electrical hardware design and development.
  • Expertise in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, PADS).
  • Proven experience with power electronics, motor control, and/or high-speed digital design.
  • Strong understanding of EMI/EMC principles and design for compliance.
  • Proficiency in analog and digital circuit design, simulation, and analysis.
  • Experience with embedded systems and microcontrollers.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in technical project leadership or team mentorship.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
  • Experience in specific industries such as industrial automation, aerospace, automotive, or medical devices.
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508).
  • Experience with FPGA design and VHDL/Verilog.
  • Knowledge of wireless communication protocols (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee).
