Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Principal Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC systems to join our growing team in Willowdale East, Toronto. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the comprehensive design, analysis, and engineering of complex HVAC systems for various building types, ensuring optimal performance, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage and oversee multiple mechanical engineering projects concurrently, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior and intermediate mechanical engineers, fostering their professional development.
  • Conduct thorough technical reviews of designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by the project team to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with all applicable codes and standards (e.g., OBC, ASHRAE, NFPA).
  • Collaborate effectively with clients, architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate mechanical designs seamlessly within interdisciplinary projects.
  • Develop innovative and sustainable HVAC solutions, incorporating renewable energy sources, advanced control strategies, and high-performance building design principles.
  • Prepare detailed reports, proposals, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Represent the company in client meetings, presentations, and regulatory discussions, demonstrating strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes in mechanical engineering and HVAC design.

Required Skills

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario or eligibility for registration.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus on HVAC system design for commercial, institutional, or industrial projects.
  • Expert-level knowledge of HVAC system design principles, including airside, waterside, refrigeration, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP (Hourly Analysis Program), Trane TRACE 700, or IESVE.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant building codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE Standards, NFPA).
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in managing projects and mentoring engineering staff.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information clearly.
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and project stakeholders effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) or other sustainability certifications (e.g., WELL AP, CEM).
  • Experience with energy modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and advanced building simulation tools.
  • Experience in commissioning and post-construction support.
  • Prior experience working on complex public sector projects or healthcare facilities.
