Job Description
Are you a seasoned privacy professional with a deep understanding of technology and a passion for safeguarding data? Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive Privacy Officer – Tech to join our innovative team in Streetsville, Mississauga. In an era where data is paramount, your expertise will be crucial in building and maintaining trust with our customers and ensuring our cutting-edge products and services adhere to the highest standards of data privacy and regulatory compliance. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of privacy within a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
As our Privacy Officer, you will be the cornerstone of our privacy program, working cross-functionally with product development, engineering, legal, and security teams. You will be instrumental in embedding privacy-by-design principles into every stage of our product lifecycle, from conceptualization to deployment. This entails reviewing technical specifications, architectural designs, and data flows to identify and mitigate privacy risks proactively. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between complex legal privacy requirements and their practical technical implementation, ensuring our systems are robust and compliant by default.
This role demands not only a comprehensive knowledge of global privacy regulations such as PIPEDA, GDPR, and CCPA but also a keen understanding of technological implementations and their privacy implications across cloud platforms, AI/ML, and data analytics. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing privacy policies and procedures, conducting privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for new projects and vendors, and providing expert guidance on data protection strategies. Your contributions will directly influence our product roadmap and operational practices, reinforcing our commitment to ethical data handling.
Your day-to-day will involve monitoring regulatory changes, assessing their impact on our operations, and proactively adjusting our privacy framework to maintain a leading edge in compliance. You will lead privacy training initiatives, ensuring all employees understand their roles and responsibilities in maintaining data integrity and confidentiality. Furthermore, you will play a key role in incident response planning and execution, addressing any potential data breaches swiftly and effectively, coordinating with relevant stakeholders and regulatory bodies as needed. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who thrives in a dynamic tech environment and is committed to fostering a culture of privacy awareness and accountability, driving our success through responsible innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive privacy policies and procedures in line with global data protection regulations (e.g., PIPEDA, GDPR, CCPA).
- Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new products, services, and technologies.
- Provide expert privacy guidance to product, engineering, security, and legal teams, embedding privacy-by-design principles from conception to launch.
- Monitor changes in privacy laws and regulations, assessing their impact on the company and updating internal policies and practices accordingly.
- Lead and facilitate privacy training and awareness programs for all employees.
- Manage and respond to data subject requests (e.g., access, rectification, erasure) and privacy inquiries.
- Assist in the development and execution of data breach incident response plans.
- Oversee third-party vendor privacy risk assessments and contractual compliance.
- Advise on data governance strategies, data mapping, and data retention schedules.
- Act as a point of contact for data protection authorities and internal stakeholders on privacy matters.

- 5+ years of experience in data privacy, compliance, or a related field within a technology company.
- In-depth knowledge of global privacy regulations including PIPEDA, GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant frameworks.
- Proven ability to translate complex legal privacy requirements into actionable technical and operational solutions.
- Strong understanding of IT systems, cloud computing, data architecture, and security practices.
- Experience conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and managing privacy by design.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex privacy concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
