Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Program Officer to join our dedicated team in Bishopston, Bristol. This pivotal role is at the heart of our mission, overseeing the entire lifecycle of our critical programs, designed to foster sustainable development and empower vulnerable communities. As a Program Officer, you will be instrumental in translating strategic goals into actionable plans, ensuring that our projects – which span areas like education, health, and livelihood support – are delivered effectively, on time, and within budget, all while maintaining the highest standards of quality and measurable impact. Your day-to-day will involve a diverse range of activities, from developing comprehensive project proposals and managing grant applications to meticulously monitoring program progress against established indicators. You will serve as a key liaison with various stakeholders, including local partners, community leaders, beneficiaries, and essential funding bodies, ensuring transparent communication and collaborative success across all initiatives. A significant part of your role will involve meticulous financial oversight, managing program budgets, and ensuring strict adherence to donor guidelines and internal financial policies. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of assigned programs, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and donor requirements.
  • Develop detailed project work plans, budgets, and logical frameworks.
  • Manage program budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure financial accountability in collaboration with the finance department.
  • Prepare high-quality progress reports, donor reports, and other internal/external communications.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local partners, community representatives, government agencies, and other key stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor program activities, assess challenges, and provide technical support to field teams.
  • Ensure programs adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, ethical guidelines, and safeguarding standards.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts by assisting in the development of grant proposals and concept notes.
  • Identify and mitigate program risks, developing contingency plans as necessary.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and learning among program teams and partners.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in program management within the non-profit or development sector.
  • Proven experience in project cycle management, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Strong financial management skills, with experience managing program budgets and donor compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in International Development, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific project management software or tools.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policies and practices in the NGO sector.
  • Familiarity with the local context of Bristol and surrounding areas.
  • Additional language proficiency relevant to international development or local community engagement.
