Job Description

Hiring.zycto is on the lookout for a highly skilled and analytical Project Estimator with a strong focus on cost evaluation to join our dynamic team in Blackhall, Edinburgh. This is a crucial role where your expertise will directly influence the success and profitability of our diverse portfolio of projects. As a Project Estimator, you will be instrumental in meticulously analysing project specifications, preparing comprehensive cost estimates, and ensuring financial viability throughout the project lifecycle.

Your day-to-day will involve working closely with project managers, engineers, and suppliers to gather critical information, interpret technical drawings, and assess material and labour costs with precision. We are looking for someone who can not only crunch numbers but also understand the underlying drivers of cost, identifying potential risks and opportunities for value engineering. You will play a key part in the tender process, contributing significantly to our competitive bids and securing new business. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for various projects, including materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Review tender documents, blueprints, specifications, and other related materials to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Conduct thorough risk analysis and identify potential cost-saving opportunities or financial challenges.
  • Liaise with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotes and negotiate favourable terms.
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive database of historical cost data, pricing, and supplier information.
  • Present clear and concise cost estimates and financial reports to internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Collaborate with project management, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure alignment on project budgets and schedules.
  • Participate in project review meetings and provide expert advice on cost implications and budget management.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Project Estimator, preferably in construction or a related industry.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, CostX, Causeway) and MS Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex information clearly.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Sound understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., RICS, CIOB).
  • Experience with various project types (commercial, residential, infrastructure).
  • Familiarity with contract law and procurement processes.
