Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Reporter – News & Field to join our bustling newsroom based in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen. This pivotal role requires an individual with a keen eye for detail, a relentless drive to uncover compelling stories, and an unwavering commitment to journalistic accuracy and ethical reporting. You will be at the heart of our news operation, responsible for identifying, researching, and reporting on local news, events, and issues that matter most to the Aberdeen community. From breaking news to in-depth features, your work will span various platforms, including digital, print, and potentially broadcast. Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and report on local news stories, events, and issues for multiple platforms (digital, print, broadcast).
  • Conduct interviews with sources, gather information, and fact-check all content to ensure accuracy and impartiality.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts within the community to generate exclusive story leads.
  • Write clear, concise, and engaging copy under tight deadlines, adhering to journalistic standards and style guidelines.
  • Operate field recording equipment, cameras, and other necessary tools for on-location reporting.
  • Collaborate with editors, photographers, and videographers to produce comprehensive and compelling news packages.
  • Actively participate in newsroom planning and brainstorming sessions, contributing innovative ideas for coverage.
  • Engage with the audience through social media and community events to promote content and gather feedback.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in news reporting, preferably with a focus on local news.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong interviewing and investigative research abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using digital publishing tools and social media platforms for news dissemination.
  • Valid UK driving license and access to reliable transportation for field assignments.
  • Deep understanding of journalistic ethics and media law.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
  • Experience with multimedia storytelling, including video and audio editing.
  • Familiarity with the Bridge of Don and wider Aberdeen area, including local politics and community issues.
  • Working knowledge of a content management system (CMS).
