Key Responsibilities
- Administering therapeutic gases, humidification, and aerosol therapies.
- Initiating and managing mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
- Performing diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary function tests.
- Assessing patients' respiratory status, charting observations, and adjusting therapy as needed.
- Educating patients and their families on respiratory conditions, medication usage, and self-care techniques.
- Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings to develop and review patient care plans.
- Responding to respiratory emergencies and assisting in resuscitation efforts.
- Maintaining and troubleshooting respiratory equipment to ensure proper function and safety.
- Adhering to all relevant clinical guidelines, policies, and professional standards.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Respiratory Therapy.
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Demonstrable experience working as a Respiratory Therapist in an acute care setting.
- Proficiency in administering various respiratory therapies and managing ventilators.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients and colleagues.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking in clinical situations.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with electronic patient record systems.
- Specialist training or certification in specific areas such as sleep medicine or pulmonary rehabilitation.
