Job Description
This role is crucial for maintaining the seamless operation of our retail store in Easton, Bristol. As a Retail Support Clerk specializing in Stock Management, you will be the backbone of our inventory system, ensuring that products are always available, organized, and accounted for. You’ll play a pivotal role in the entire stock lifecycle, from receiving deliveries to preparing items for the sales floor, and meticulously managing returns and transfers. Your efforts will directly contribute to our store’s profitability and our ability to meet customer demand efficiently.
Your day will involve a variety of essential tasks designed to optimize our stock levels and enhance the overall shopping experience for our customers. You will be responsible for accurately checking in merchandise against delivery manifests, meticulously identifying and resolving any discrepancies, and carefully storing items in designated areas according to our organizational standards. Precision is paramount in this role, as your work directly impacts our sales figures, prevents stockouts, and ultimately elevates customer satisfaction. You will be proficient in utilizing our inventory management system to log all stock movements, conduct regular cycle counts, and assist in maintaining a tidy, safe, and efficient stockroom environment that facilitates quick access and accurate tracking.
Beyond the logistical aspects of receiving and storing, you’ll collaborate closely with the sales and visual merchandising teams. This involves understanding their needs for timely replenishment, preparing products for display – including ticketing, security tagging, and ensuring items are retail-ready – and maintaining a smooth flow of goods to the sales floor. You’ll also be instrumental in processing customer returns, ensuring they are correctly logged and routed, and managing inter-store transfers with accuracy, maintaining meticulous records throughout each process. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, unpack, and accurately check in merchandise against delivery notes and purchase orders.
- Organize and store inventory in the stockroom according to company procedures and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate stock records using the inventory management system.
- Conduct regular stock counts and assist with inventory audits.
- Prepare merchandise for the sales floor, including tagging, pricing, and security application.
- Process customer returns and manage inter-store transfers with precision.
- Identify and report discrepancies or damaged goods to management.
- Keep the stockroom clean, tidy, and organized at all times.
- Collaborate with the sales team to ensure adequate stock levels on the sales floor.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and security policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a retail or warehouse environment, preferably in stock management (at least 1 year)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to lift and move merchandise weighing up to 25kg repeatedly
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and inventory systems
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific inventory management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle Retail, etc.)
- Forklift certification (if applicable to store setup, or willingness to obtain)
- Familiarity with retail security procedures.
