Key Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor tasks such as digging, shoveling, raking, and spreading asphalt, gravel, and other materials.
- Operate various hand and power tools safely and efficiently, including compactors, plate tampers, and small saw equipment.
- Assist skilled tradespersons (e.g., pavers, heavy equipment operators) with their tasks as directed.
- Load and unload construction materials from trucks and prepare sites for construction activities.
- Maintain a clean and organized work site, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored.
- Direct traffic and pedestrians around construction zones using flagging signals and safety cones, when certified and required.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Assist with the setup and teardown of temporary work zones, signage, and barricades.
- Perform general site cleanup and debris removal.
- Learn and adapt to new tasks and techniques quickly under supervision.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow).
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety protocols.
- Basic communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid G Class Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Experience working in an outdoor, physically demanding role (e.g., landscaping, general labor).
- Basic knowledge of construction safety practices or willingness to obtain certifications.
- First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
