Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and proficient Sailor – Navigation & Crew Assistance to join our dynamic team, operating from the bustling Clydebank Waterfront in Glasgow. This pivotal role involves contributing to the safe and efficient operation of various vessels, providing essential support to navigation officers, and ensuring the general upkeep and operational readiness of the vessel. As a Sailor, you will be instrumental in the day-to-day activities onboard, encompassing everything from precise mooring and unmooring operations to assisting with watchkeeping duties and maintaining the ship’s fabric. Your ability to work effectively as part of a crew, follow instructions diligently, and react promptly in critical situations will be highly valued. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine watchkeeping duties (deck or engine, as assigned) and maintain a vigilant lookout.
- Assist with mooring, unmooring, and anchoring operations, ensuring all lines and equipment are handled safely and efficiently.
- Conduct general maintenance of the vessel, including cleaning, painting, rust removal, and minor repairs.
- Handle and stow cargo and stores securely, ensuring proper lashing and safety protocols are observed.
- Assist navigation officers with chart corrections, radar monitoring, and other navigational tasks as required.
- Operate deck machinery and equipment, such as winches, cranes, and lifting gear, in accordance with safety procedures.
- Participate in safety drills, emergency response procedures, and fire-fighting exercises.
- Ensure all safety equipment, including life rafts, lifejackets, and fire extinguishers, are in good working order and readily accessible.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness throughout the vessel.
- Adhere strictly to all maritime regulations, company policies, and international safety standards.
