Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and certified School Counselor to join our vibrant team in The Beaches, Toronto. As a key member of our student support services, you will play a crucial role in promoting the academic, social, emotional, and career development of our students. This position requires a professional who is deeply committed to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment where every student feels supported and empowered to reach their full potential. You will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administration to provide comprehensive counseling services, implement preventative programs, and respond to student needs with empathy and expertise. We are looking for an individual with a strong understanding of adolescent development, mental health challenges, and effective intervention strategies. Your ability to create a safe space for students to explore their concerns, develop coping mechanisms, and set future goals will be paramount. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students facing academic, social, emotional, or personal challenges.
  • Develop and implement school-wide guidance programs and workshops on topics such as stress management, career planning, conflict resolution, and bullying prevention.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administration to identify student needs and develop individualized support plans.
  • Act as a liaison between students, families, and external mental health or community services.
  • Conduct crisis intervention and respond appropriately to urgent student needs, including threat assessments.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with school policies and privacy regulations.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and mediation among students.
  • Participate in student success team meetings and contribute to a positive school culture.
  • Stay current with best practices in school counseling and professional development.
  • Assist students with post-secondary planning, including university applications, college programs, and career exploration.

Required Skills

  • Valid Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification with qualifications in Guidance and Career Education.
  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Educational Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a School Counselor in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide individual and group counseling to diverse student populations.
  • Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development, mental health issues, and relevant legal/ethical guidelines.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and crisis intervention skills.
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering guidance curriculum and preventative programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with restorative justice practices.
  • Proficiency in a second language relevant to the local community (e.g., French, Mandarin).
  • Familiarity with local community resources and mental health services in Toronto.
  • Experience integrating technology into counseling practices and program delivery.
