This pivotal role ensures the seamless flow and continuity of our cinematic projects from pre-production through post-production. As a Script Supervisor, you will be the eyes and ears on set, meticulously documenting every take, action, and dialogue change, ensuring consistency in performance, wardrobe, props, and set dressing. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining the director’s vision and assisting the editorial team in assembling the final cut.
Working closely with the director, cinematographer, and other key crew members, you will be responsible for precise note-taking, timekeeping, and generating comprehensive reports crucial for efficient post-production. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain meticulous continuity notes for all scenes, including action, dialogue, wardrobe, props, and set dressing.
- Record precise timings for each take, shot, and scene, contributing to accurate production scheduling and editing.
- Generate comprehensive daily reports, including script notes, camera logs, and continuity breakdowns.
- Liaise directly with the director, cinematographer, and actors to ensure artistic vision and technical continuity are upheld.
- Mark scripts with changes, scene numbers, takes, and other essential information.
- Ensure consistent screen direction and eye-lines between shots and scenes.
- Oversee the proper labeling and storage of all continuity materials.
- Assist the editorial team during post-production by providing detailed notes and references.
- Anticipate and identify potential continuity errors before they occur during filming.
- Manage and organize digital and physical continuity files efficiently.
Required Skills
- Minimum 4 years (48 months) of professional experience as a Script Supervisor in film or television production.
- Exceptional attention to detail and keen observation skills.
- Profound understanding of film production processes, terminology, and workflows.
- Proficiency with industry-standard script supervising software and tools (e.g., Scriptation, iPad apps).
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with diverse teams.
- Ability to work long hours and under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
- In-depth knowledge of continuity principles and practices.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Film Production, Media Arts, or a related field.
- Experience working on various genres of film projects (e.g., features, shorts, commercials).
- Familiarity with the Edmonton film production landscape.
- Portfolio or list of previous projects demonstrating continuity work.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
