Job Description

This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly analytical and experienced Senior Compensation Analyst to join our team, working within the dynamic environment associated with a leading educational institution. As a pivotal member of our Human Resources department, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and administering comprehensive compensation programs that attract, retain, and motivate top talent. You will be responsible for conducting complex compensation analysis, participating in salary surveys, and providing expert consultation on compensation-related matters to various stakeholders. This role demands a keen eye for detail, strong analytical capabilities, and an in-depth understanding of compensation best practices and market trends, particularly within a large, complex organization. You will play a critical role in ensuring our compensation structures are competitive, equitable, and compliant with all relevant regulations, fostering an environment where employees feel valued and fairly rewarded for their contributions. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing administration of compensation programs, including base pay structures, incentive plans, and job evaluation systems.
  • Conduct in-depth market pricing analysis, participate in salary surveys, and benchmark jobs to ensure competitive pay structures across all employee groups.
  • Provide expert advice and consultation to HR Business Partners and management on compensation policies, job evaluations, salary recommendations, and market adjustments.
  • Analyze compensation data, identify trends, and prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for senior leadership to support strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local compensation regulations, including pay equity and minimum wage standards.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions on compensation programs and policies to HR colleagues and managers.
  • Contribute to the annual compensation review process, including merit increases, promotions, and bonus allocations.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, compensation best practices, and legislative changes to continuously improve existing programs.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in compensation analysis and program administration, preferably within a large organization.
  • Proven expertise in compensation principles, methodologies, and best practices, including job evaluation, market pricing, and salary survey participation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, complex formulas) and experience with HRIS/compensation software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation or in progress.
  • Experience with Workday, SAP, or similar HRIS platforms.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment or a public sector/higher education institution.
  • Familiarity with Canadian compensation laws and regulations (e.g., Ontario Pay Equity Act).
