Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Administrator specializing in SQL Server to join a dynamic team in Forest Hill, Toronto. This pivotal role involves overseeing the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of critical database systems that underpin our clients’ most vital operations. As a Senior DBA, you will be instrumental in ensuring the high availability, performance, and security of all SQL Server instances, working closely with development, operations, and business intelligence teams. You will be expected to leverage your deep technical expertise to proactively identify and resolve complex database issues, contribute to strategic architectural decisions, and champion best practices in database management. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available and scalable SQL Server database solutions.
  • Proactively monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement effective tuning strategies.
  • Develop, test, and maintain robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans for all production databases.
  • Manage database security, user access, roles, and permissions in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with software development teams to optimize database schema design and T-SQL queries.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database-related issues, including performance, connectivity, and data integrity problems.
  • Implement and manage SQL Server replication, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, and other high-availability features.
  • Automate routine database tasks using PowerShell scripting and other relevant tools.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior database administrators and development staff.
  • Stay abreast of emerging database technologies and best practices, evaluating their applicability to our environment.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL Server versions 2016, 2019, and 2022.
  • Deep understanding of T-SQL programming, query optimization, and execution plans.
  • Extensive experience with SQL Server high availability technologies (AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Clustering, Replication).
  • Proven ability in database performance monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of database security principles and implementation.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing robust backup and recovery strategies.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting for database automation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar certifications.
  • Experience with cloud-based database services (Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS for SQL Server).
  • Familiarity with other database systems (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Experience working in a high-transactional, 24/7 production environment.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes (SSIS).
