Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems to join our dynamic team in Toronto. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead and contribute to complex, high-impact projects that shape the future of electrical infrastructure across various sectors, including utilities, industrial facilities, and renewable energy. As a Senior Electrical Engineer – Power, you will be instrumental in the full project lifecycle, from initial conceptual design and detailed engineering to commissioning and operational support.

You will be responsible for developing innovative and robust electrical power system designs, ensuring compliance with all relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations. This includes the design of medium and low voltage distribution systems, switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, protective relaying, and grounding systems. Your expertise will be crucial in performing detailed power system studies such as short circuit analysis, arc flash studies, load flow, and protective device coordination using industry-standard software. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering of complex electrical power systems, including medium and low voltage distribution, switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, and protective relaying.
  • Conduct comprehensive power system studies, including short circuit, arc flash, load flow, and protective device coordination.
  • Prepare detailed engineering specifications, drawings, and reports in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant electrical codes (e.g., CEC, NEC), safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their professional development.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders to define project scope, deliverables, and schedules.
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, and commissioning activities to ensure successful project implementation.
  • Evaluate and select electrical equipment, materials, and vendors.
  • Develop cost estimates and support proposal preparation for new projects.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in electrical power system design for industrial, commercial, or utility applications.
  • Proficiency with power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM PowerTools, PSS/E, PSCAD).
  • Strong understanding of national and local electrical codes and standards (CEC, CSA, IEEE).
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software.
  • Demonstrated project management and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license in Ontario or eligibility for registration.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
  • Experience with renewable energy integration (solar, wind) or battery storage systems.
  • Familiarity with substation design and high-voltage transmission.
  • Experience in client-facing roles and business development support.
