Job Description
Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer with a strong focus on field operations to join our dynamic team in Toronto. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage geotechnical site investigations, including drilling programs, in-situ testing (e.g., CPT, SPT), and laboratory testing analysis, ensuring data accuracy and relevance.
- Conduct advanced geotechnical analyses for foundations, excavations, slopes, retaining structures, and ground improvement techniques using specialized software and engineering principles.
- Develop practical and cost-effective design recommendations and provide engineering seals for reports, drawings, and specifications, adhering to relevant codes and standards.
- Provide expert supervision and oversight of field construction activities, including earthworks, pile driving, shoring installation, and dewatering, ensuring compliance with design and specifications.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, proposals, and technical memorandums that clearly articulate findings, risks, and proposed solutions to clients and stakeholders.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior geotechnical engineers and field technicians, fostering their professional development and ensuring project quality.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, civil engineers, structural engineers, and other disciplines to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall project designs.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources, ensuring timely and profitable project delivery while maintaining high client satisfaction.
- Engage with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to discuss project requirements, present technical findings, and obtain necessary approvals.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in geotechnical engineering practices, technologies, and software, implementing best practices within the team.
Required Skills
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
- Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant field experience.
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and geological principles.
- Proficiency in geotechnical investigation techniques, interpretation of field and lab data.
- Expertise in geotechnical design software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, WALLAP, gINT).
- Demonstrated project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and presentations.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for site visits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree (M.Eng. or M.Sc.) in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with design-build projects and public-private partnerships (P3).
- Familiarity with local Toronto geology and regulatory requirements.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading field teams.
- Certification in various safety trainings (e.g., WHMIS, Working at Heights).
