Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a Senior Instrumentation Engineer specializing in Control Systems to join our dynamic team in Toronto. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, specification, and selection of instrumentation and control systems for industrial projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
- Develop detailed engineering documentation, including P&IDs, instrument lists, loop diagrams, cause and effect matrices, and control philosophies.
- Perform complex calculations for instrument sizing, control valve sizing, and relief valve sizing.
- Oversee the integration of control systems, including PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems, with process instrumentation.
- Participate in HazOp studies, LOPA, and other safety reviews, providing expert input on instrumentation and control system integrity.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams.
- Conduct site visits for data collection, commissioning support, and troubleshooting.
- Manage vendor selection, technical bid evaluation, and procurement support for instrumentation and control equipment.
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project execution.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, industry trends, and best practices in instrumentation and control engineering.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in instrumentation and control systems engineering, preferably in heavy industry, manufacturing, or process sectors.
- Extensive knowledge of various field instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, level, analytical).
- Proficiency in PLC (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens), DCS (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion), and SCADA system architectures.
- Demonstrated experience with P&ID development and interpretation, instrument hook-ups, and wiring diagrams.
- Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, Foundation Fieldbus).
- Strong command of industry standards and codes (e.g., ISA, API, ASME, IEC, NEC).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license in Ontario or eligibility for registration.
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience with functional safety (SIS) and cybersecurity for industrial control systems.
- Familiarity with engineering software tools such as SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) or Aveva Instrumentation.
- Project management experience or certifications (e.g., PMP).
- Experience in commissioning, startup, and operational support of control systems.
