Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Metallurgist to join our dynamic team in Toronto. This pivotal role will be instrumental in optimizing mineral processing operations, from conceptual design through to commissioning and ongoing plant support. You will leverage your deep understanding of metallurgical principles and process engineering to drive efficiency, enhance recovery rates, and implement innovative solutions across various mining projects. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in base metals, precious metals, or industrial minerals, coupled with a proven track record in a operational or project-based metallurgy role. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage metallurgical test programs, including scoping, planning, execution, and interpretation of results.
- Optimize existing mineral processing circuits to improve recovery, reduce operating costs, and enhance product quality.
- Conduct detailed process design and engineering studies for new projects and plant expansions.
- Provide expert technical support and troubleshooting for operational issues at mine sites, requiring occasional travel.
- Develop and implement robust process control strategies to ensure stable and efficient plant performance.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, feasibility studies, and economic evaluations.
- Mentor and guide junior metallurgists and technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in mineral processing or extractive metallurgy within the mining industry.
- Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., METSIM, JKSimMet, OLI Analyzer).
- Strong understanding of crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching, and solid-liquid separation processes.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex metallurgical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario or eligibility for registration.
- Experience with pyrometallurgy or hydrometallurgy processes for various ore types.
- Track record of successful project management from conception to commissioning.
- Multilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or French, are an asset.
