Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage complex mine planning projects, including long-term and short-term plans for underground and surface operations.
- Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, economic evaluations, and risk assessments for new and existing mining ventures.
- Develop and optimize mine designs, production schedules, and operational strategies to maximize efficiency and profitability.
- Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to junior mining engineers and project teams.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with geology, metallurgy, environmental, and financial teams to integrate plans and ensure project success.
- Perform geotechnical analysis, ground control design, and ventilation studies to ensure safe and stable mining environments.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and proposals for internal and external stakeholders.
- Implement and advocate for innovative technologies and methodologies to enhance mining operations.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions as required.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada (or eligible for registration)
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in mining engineering roles
- Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Surpac, Vulcan, MineSight)
- Strong understanding of rock mechanics, ground control, and mine ventilation principles
- Demonstrated experience in project management and leading technical teams
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities
- Proven track record of delivering successful mining projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience with both underground and open-pit mining operations
