Joining us means impacting critical projects, collaborating with top-tier talent, and contributing to a future built on innovation and robust engineering. For a Senior Piping Engineer seeking significant influence and growth, we offer unparalleled opportunities.
Job Description
We are seeking an exceptionally skilled and experienced Senior Piping Engineer specializing in Oil and Gas to join our esteemed engineering team in Cabbagetown, Toronto. This pivotal role involves leading the design, analysis, and execution of piping systems for various oil and gas projects, encompassing upstream, midstream, and downstream facilities. You will be instrumental in ensuring that all piping designs comply with industry standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements, contributing directly to the safety, efficiency, and operational integrity of our ventures.
As a Senior Piping Engineer, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of piping engineering tasks, from conceptual design and FEED studies through detailed engineering, procurement support, and construction liaison. This includes developing P&IDs, piping layouts, material specifications, stress analysis reports, and isometric drawings. You will leverage advanced simulation software and your deep understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and material science to overcome complex engineering challenges. Beyond technical expertise, this role demands strong leadership qualities, as you will mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance to project teams, and engage proactively with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders. You will play a crucial role in maintaining project schedules and budgets, identifying potential risks, and proposing innovative solutions to optimize project delivery. We foster a culture of continuous improvement and expect our senior engineers to drive best practices and contribute to our knowledge base. This is an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on major infrastructure projects within the critical oil and gas sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of piping design and engineering for assigned oil and gas projects, ensuring adherence to project specifications, industry codes (e.g., ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8), and regulatory requirements.
- Perform complex piping stress analysis using specialized software (e.g., Caesar II, AutoPIPE) for various operating conditions, including thermal, seismic, wind, and dynamic loads.
- Develop and review piping design deliverables such as P&IDs, piping layouts, isometric drawings, material requisitions, and support designs.
- Prepare technical specifications for piping components, valves, and specialty items, and evaluate vendor proposals.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior piping engineers, fostering their professional development.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with process, mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams to ensure seamless integration of piping systems.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, 3D model reviews, and provide expert input to identify and mitigate risks.
- Support procurement and construction phases, addressing technical queries, performing site visits, and ensuring compliance with design intent.
- Develop and implement piping design standards, procedures, and best practices.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in piping engineering within the oil and gas industry (upstream, midstream, or downstream).
- Proficiency in piping design and stress analysis software, including Caesar II or AutoPIPE.
- Extensive knowledge of international piping codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, API standards).
- Solid understanding of piping materials, metallurgy, and fabrication techniques.
- Experience with 2D/3D CAD software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, SmartPlant 3D (SP3D), or PDS.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario or eligibility for registration.
- Experience with FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) projects.
- Familiarity with project management principles and tools.
- Leadership experience in leading small engineering teams or task forces.
