Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Project Architect, licensed in Ontario, to join our client’s dedicated team in Toronto. This is an extraordinary opportunity to play a pivotal role in designing and managing projects, potentially contributing to the unique architectural needs associated with a landmark institution like Ripley’s Aquarium. As a Senior Project Architect, you will be instrumental in leading architectural projects from conceptual design through to construction administration, ensuring the highest standards of design, technical execution, and client satisfaction.

You will be responsible for overseeing the full project lifecycle, from initial programming and feasibility studies to detailed construction documents and on-site support. This role demands a strong understanding of building codes, zoning regulations, and sustainable design principles, particularly within complex institutional or public-facing environments. You will coordinate extensively with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, specialized consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery that adheres to budget, schedule, and quality objectives.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership abilities, capable of mentoring junior staff and fostering a collaborative team environment. You will be the primary point of contact for clients, translating their visions and requirements into innovative and buildable architectural solutions. Experience with projects involving unique structural requirements, advanced environmental control systems, or high-volume public access will be a distinct advantage. This position offers the chance to work on challenging and rewarding projects that demand creativity, technical prowess, and a meticulous approach to detail, making a tangible impact on Toronto’s built environment.

  • Manage project teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical oversight to junior architects and designers.
  • Act as the primary client liaison, fostering strong relationships and effectively communicating project progress and design decisions.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary consultants (structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, specialized systems) to integrate all project components.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections during construction, addressing issues and ensuring design intent is met.
  • Perform comprehensive review of shop drawings and submittals.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, zoning bylaws, and accessibility standards.
  • Implement sustainable design strategies and practices where applicable.
  • Prepare project proposals, fee estimates, and contract negotiations.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects from inception to completion.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Expertise in construction detailing and material selection.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • LEED AP certification or other sustainable design credentials.
  • Experience with institutional, public, or large-scale commercial projects, particularly those with unique technical or programmatic requirements.
  • Experience with specialized building types such as aquariums, museums, or laboratories.
